Thank you, truly, for your prayers, friends. On Monday morning the day began very smoothly. I had an excellent nurse, the doctor assigned to my procedures was very nice, and they seemed to be on top of things. But then my scheduled surgery time came and went. It isn’t unusual for them to run a bit late. Nevertheless, the later it got, the more we suspected something was amiss. Long story short, after waiting for about 6 hours I ended up being sent home without having surgery. They had nowhere to put me post-op due to high census, a result of Covid. The hospital staff members were amazing, on the phone for hours trying to make something happen. There was just nothing they could do. So ultimately they sent me home.
This is the second time this surgery has been canceled. The first time we got a call the night before informing us that my surgery was canceled because insurance pre-approval had not come through yet. This was frustrating of course. But the next day, a couple hours after my surgery was supposed to be, cultures began to show that there was infection around my feeding tube site. So ultimately it ended up being a blessing that the surgery was cancelled, as the infection needed to be treated beforehand.
I am sure there are blessings to be found in the fact that Monday’s surgery was cancelled, too. Honestly it was such an exhausting experience that I am still recovering; I know the blessings in disguise are there somewhere, they just haven’t been fully revealed as of yet. But I will say that I did get to come home to the best hug ever from Alice Eloise, and that is always something to be thankful for! 🐶💋
Please pray that we get this craziness straightened out soon. I don’t know when my surgery will be rescheduled, but the team at the hospital is going to do their best to have everything as prepared as possible. This could potentially take a while, as unfortunately Covid rates are rising steadily.
But hey, third time’s a charm, right? I am already on a first name basis with the guy who does the pre-procedure Covid testing. James is an awfully nice gentleman, but we have got to stop meeting like this!
I will keep you posted. And stay safe, everybody! Thank you again for your prayers, friends!
